December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading a collection of short stories published by Guidepost

Reading We Hear the Christmas Angels: True Stories of their Presence, a collection of stories published by Guidepost. She went with her parents to the Once a Month Church, and the pastor's wife loaned her this book. Now that she's reading it, she's noticing angels. Yesterday, when she was driving, her car stalled and she had to pull over at the bus stop and her kids were like - Oh my gosh, what happened - and then, up a few yards, they noticed a police car parked in the middle of the road with its lights off which, had she not reacted quick enough, they would have crashed into.

Favorites -- The Bible and Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

If she were to write a book, it'd be about all of God's blessings.

December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading Kim Edwards

Visiting from the Bay Area, just like me
Reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards.

Her favorite book -- it's based in medieval Europe and about the building of cathedrals. it was an Oprah pick -- The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett.

If she were to write a book -- it would be the journey of friendship.

December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading Ayn Rand

Reading Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. Before this he was reading America: The Last Best Hope, by William Bennett and biographies of Ron Paul and Jesse Ventura.

School had destroyed his natural desire to read and it was only after figuring out his own interests and surfing the internet for book titles, that he was able to find subjects he was interested in, and began reading nonfiction.

His car just got stolen and now he has time to read on the bus. This book, which his housemate recommended, is the first book of fiction that he has read on his own, without having been assigned in school. He is loving it. Flabbergasted, really, by how great it is to read fiction.

His favorite book of all time -- The Book of Mormon.

December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading Arthur Golden

Reading Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden, in the Spanish translation. It was recommended by her sister last summer.

She is from Mexico City, but is attending Brigham Young University on Oahu, after having done English language training in Salt Lake City. She likes it here better - it's warmer!

She is studying International Business Management and would like to work for a large corporation in Mexico City and also start a cleaning business with her family.

Also recommended by her sister -- Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey.

December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading David Mitchell

Reading Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell. It was on a reading list a friend gave him to occupy his free time while recovering from shoulder surgery. With a shoulder injury you can't work construction, but you can, happily, read.

His favorite book -- Jitterbug Perfume, by Tom Robbins. Recently he read Choke, by Chuck Palahniuk, and The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran, which he's read several times.

More readers to come...

December 12, Friday afternoon -- Reading Christopher Keane

Reading Romancing the A-List: How to Write the Script the Big Stars Want to Make, by Christopher Keane. He is an actor and also a writer.

A book he recommends -- The Art of Dramatic Writing, by Lajos Egri. You've got to think about the character first. Also recommended, another one of his bibles -- Aristotle's Poetics, which talks about plot.

December 12, Friday morning -- Reading Linda D. Urden, Kathleen M. Stacy, and Mary E. Lough

Reading Priorities in Critical Care Nursing, fifth edition, by Linda D. Urden, Kathleen M. Stacy, and Mary E. Lough.

A good book that is recommended for students who are becoming nurses (though she personally hasn't read it yet), to give a patient's perspective, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, a memoir by Jean-Dominique Bauby.

Favorite book -- Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse.

If she wrote her own book, it'd be about her own personal journey in choosing a career and a path in life, which isn't over yet. With graduation coming in a few days she's at a critical point and is divided fifty-fifty about leaving the island, where she grew up. It's either here or Seattle, but she knows that she wants to be a critical care nurse.

December 12, Friday morning -- Reading David L. Nelson and Michael M. Cox

Reading Principles of Biochemistry, fourth edition, by David L. Nelson and Michael M. Cox. Specifically, she's reading about how molecules interact, body metabolism and the citric acid cycle.

Favorite author -- Dean Koontz. Right now she's reading The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd.

December 12, Friday morning -- Reading Lippincott Williams & Wilkins

Preparing for his final exam, reading Pathophysiology made Incredibly Easy!, published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. Favorite book -- Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, though, he said, he doesn't really enjoy reading.
